Staff Changes at BHS

 Blackhawk High School has had some staffing changes effective this school year. Here is a rundown of all of them. 

Herr Bauer Resigns

According to the school board agenda for August 11, 2022, Herr Bauer is resigning, effective date TBA. I do not know the reason for the resignation nor his temporary or permanent replacement at this time. Look for more information coming soon.

New Counselor

Mrs. Pegher resigned earlier this summer. It was not listed publicly why, however, through talking with her, she decided to take a job at West Allegheny High School, which is closer to her home. Replacing her will be Mrs. Mia Gantz. More information on her will be coming soon.

Orchestra Teacher Change

Mr. Baker, the orchestra teacher as of last school year, resigned before this school year. Although rumors were floating around that he would not be replaced, protest from parents led to a new teacher being hired. The new orchestra teacher will be Mrs. Lisa Orr. More info will be coming soon. 

In other news, Mrs. Hullihen will no longer be sophomore class sponsor and Mr. Watkins will no longer be creative director. However, both will remain in their current teaching roles.

Michael Turconi Drafted

 Michael Turconi, 2018 Blackhawk graduate and Wake Forest shortstop, was drafted in the 15th round by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. This comes off of Turconi's best season ever statistically. Batting .314 and with an OPS over 1.000, he showed improvement in almost all statistical categories. This season came after he was not drafted in the previous draft. Taking pro scouts' tips to stock and with a chip on his shoulder, Turconi posted his best season in his college career. Brian Omogrosso, Adam Liberatore, and Brendan McKay have all gone from Blackhawk to Major League Baseball and played at least 1 game in the majors. Michael Turconi hopes to join that elite club. His journey will likely start in Dunedin, FL, where the Blue Jays' Low-A team, the Dunedin Blue Jays, and Florida Complex League team, the FCL Blue Jays, play. Woods World of Sports Extra: Playoff Clinching Scenarios

 Welcome back to the Maverick! I apologize for the lack of recent posts, as I had other fish to fry and rest assured, exciting things are en route, so watch this space. Anyway, I am making this to show how Blackhawk's baseball and softball teams can clinch playoff spots. Things will get complex, so stay tuned. Baseball Right now, Blackhawk baseball is at 4-6 in the section, and are tied with Quaker Valley for 3rd. Central Valley and Ambridge are tied for 5th at 3-7, while New Castle is 2-8. Beaver and Montour have clinched their playoff spots already. There are 4 berths out of the section. On Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10, Blackhawk will take on New Castle, Quaker Valley will take on Ambridge, and Beaver will take on Central Valley. To clinch, Blackhawk must: a) Win both games against New Castle. If they do so, they clinch 3rd in the section and return to the playoffs no matter what. b) Win 1 game against New Castle.
